An Elocution Competition to mark the birth anniversary of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru was conducted by the Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery at St. Antony’s School, Tansi Nagar, Velachery today.
The students were given the topic "Make Dreams Real" for the competion. The function was presided over by Rtn. Mukundhan, President, Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery. Thirty one students from Std VI to Std XI took part in the competition. Rtn. K. Natarajan, Director - Youth Services, Rtn. P.S. Rajkumar, Rtn. R.P Gopalakrishnan acted as judges for evaluating the students’ performance.
Sister Mary of St. Antony’s School welcomed the gathering and appreciated the initiatives taken by the Rotary Club in selecting their school for this competition. All the students had done good preparation and made their speech with a great start, connecting themselves with the dreams of famous scientists Thomas Alva Edison, Marconi, Graham Bell and others. They recalled how their dreams contributed to the society and highlighted that the fruits of their labour have enriched our lives.
Students showered their praise on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam for his respect and love for the children of India and for asking them to dream to become future leaders and scientists to serve the society. Students also recalled Mahakavi Bharathiar’s singing “Kanavu Maipadal Vendum”
Six students (three from Std. VI to Std. VIII and three from Std. IX to Std. XI) were selected based on their performance for Awards from Rtn. Murali Venkatesan, Director -Interact, R.I. District 3230, on 14th November 2008, during the Children’s Day celebrations at the school. Sweets were also distributed to all the children.
