book's web site: http://outskirtspress.com/
The topics for the one-hour live training webinars range from work readiness topics to customer service topics to sales skills to supervisor/management skills to courses for new and seasoned entrepreneurs. The topic for the free live preview webinar on Friday, 11/28 at 11:00 AM EST is "Ethics in the Workplace". The target audience for the free preview is human resources management, training managers, supervisors, managers and business owners. In other words, individuals that are sampling the product to determine if they want to send their employees (or themselves) to future webinars, are the primary targets for the free webinar. You can see the webinar topics, the webinar schedule, and write-ups about the webinars at http://www.workready.org/
With more and more businesses cutting training staff and training budgets, it is DTR Inc.'s hope that these live webinars will allow businesses to remain committed to training and developing their staff. This format reduces the cost of training through shared access across companies and eliminating the need to travel to classes. DTR Inc. can also be contracted to develop custom training courses using its webinar software, allowing a company to reduce its costs by training employees at various locations at the same time.
In addition to seeing and hearing a live instructor, the live webinar has a chat room and polling questions to keep the audience involved. It is Jay Goldberg's belief that live training events are much more effective than taped or pre-recorded training sessions because viewers must pay attention during the event since there is no rewind button. One way that taped and pre-recorded training sessions try to be relevant is by having an assessment test that viewers must pass after watching. However, what having to pass an assessment test after the event accomplishes is that the value of the training session is further reduced. The viewers will be more concerned about "what will be on the test" than actually paying attention to the content of the training course. Besides, many employees will answer "what the boss wants me to say", not what they truly believe. The goal of workplace training is to modify behavior and change attitudes, not to provide knowledge that may or may not be implemented. Changing attitudes and modifying behaviors is accomplished by explaining why behaviors/skills are needed and valued in the workplace, not by presenting facts and testing knowledge. Therefore, a good presentation, with the participants listening to the entire lecture is required, not writing down facts so a test can be passed.

Jay Goldberg, a former Citibank executive, developed a work readiness certification program that was called the best in the U.S. by the National Skills Standard Board at a presentation of the Program in Jacksonville, Florida on 01/14/03. What made this Program unique, was Mr. Goldberg's philosophy that demonstrated competency was the true indicator of success in work readiness training programs, not scores on assessment tests. What ultimately determined the effectiveness of this Program was how the participants performed after graduation in the workplace , not how well the participants performed on tests during the Program.
Mr. Goldberg then trained one-stop center staff, high school teachers, post-high school trade school instructors, correctional facility staff and more to teach the program. One challenge was to get these instructors to embrace the strategy that the business community was the primary customer for the Program, not the participants in class.
Offshoots of Mr. Goldberg's Work Readiness Training Program can be found throughout the U.S.
In 2006, Mr. Goldberg, working with Staff at the Palm Beach County Resource Center, developed what was termed a "revolutionary"
In 2008, Mr. Goldberg wrote his work readiness book, "How to Get, Keep and Be Well paid in a Job". This book updates his work readiness curriculum by clearly explaining why specific behaviors and skills are needed in the workplace by using examples from everyday life to make key points. For example, the interview process is compared to a first date, music downloading is used in the discussion about ethics, and much more.
