UK Organic Meat is no longer a rip off

Organic meat producers Jonathan and Sally Rees have fixed all the prices on their website in a challenge to other producers to give greater transparency to their customers.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Nov 15, 2008 – In 2001 farmers, Jonathan and Sally Rees, gained organic certification for their own farm in Mid Wales.

Since then the entrepreneurial couple spotted a gap in the local market for a fully organic cutting plant, and this was quickly followed by an online store, together with True Taste of Wales accolades virtually every year since.

In October 2008, with tales of economic gloom, Jonathan and Sally have fixed all prices on their website in an effort to prevent the uncertainty of what the bill will eventually be when shopping for meat online.  All other online retailers in this sector still price their meat by weight - which means the bill the customer receives could be anything up to 10% higher (or more with some of the less scrupulous retailers) than the final figure on the screen.

By fixing pricing and introducing multi buy discount structures on their website Jonathan and Sally hope to make organic meat accessible to those on even the slimmest of budgets.  Sally said:

"As a Mum, and wife I know how difficult budgeting for my groceries is, even though we have the meat on the farm.  I think it is important that retailers like ourselves recognise the difficulties that people are going through and do all we can to help, particularly in the area of food for the table"

Shoppers can now receive discounts as high as 20% simply by buying more than one of the same item at a time.  In the run up to Christmas, Welsh Farm Organics are intending to introduce 'Club Organic', which will enable groups of neighbours, social groups etc to club together and so benefit from the multi-buy discounts.  This means that even if a family wants just 2 steaks, they will be able to benefit from the discounts available for 4 or 6 steaks simply because their neighbours are buying at the same time.

Jonathan Rees commented:

"It is all very well offering multi-buy discounts, but I when I was looking at some of our orders I realised that in more than one instance we were delivering to multiple address that were on the same street.  In one case two orders were delivered 2days apart to next-door-neighbours."

he further went on to explain:

"that is not good for the environment (two courier deliveries - double packaging etc) and the customers could have saved money by simply combining their orders.  It is our job to help our customers save whilst they are shopping with us, so Club Organic will provide the vehicle to do that.  It would be fantastic if we could get groups from every area of society combining their orders and saving - great for neighbours, firemen, nurses, University students, teachers and so on"

Additionally, Welsh Farm Organics have just published the first blog post from a married mum of two simply known as Karen wrote an exciting piece on creating mini beef burgers with inexpensive organic mince from Welsh Farm Organics.  This post is the first in what is intended to be a long series that focus on producing high quality and great tasting meals at home for real families, using the cheaper cuts of meat.  Each post will feature images, recipes and Karens' opinion of the meal as a qualified nutritionist (blog post can be found at http://welshfarmorganics.co.uk/organic-news/).

In these times when the news is full of economic gloom, there is a farming couple in Mid-Wales that is working hard to bring quality AND affordability to anyone with an internet connection or a telephone.
