Irish Engineering Company Shortlisted for Green Awards 2008

Nov. 14, 2008 - PRLog -- TOBIN Consulting Engineers is committed to environmental issues and aimed to achieve company accreditation by a recognised body for this commitment.
At the start of 2008 the TOBIN Board took a decision to pursue accreditation to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System )and TOBIN have recently achieved this goal (July 2008).  
Initially TOBIN began to communicate the “green” objective to all staff through the use of e-mail, newsletter and placing of highly visible signs encouraging staff to take a proactive approach in conserving energy through out all offices.  The next step involved educating staff in their role in achieving the objective.  This generated a very positive response from all staff and involved a detailed review of current practices that existed in all offices with regard to reducing our carbon footprint. A database detailing all  TOBINs activities was generated and a rating system evaluating the impact of these activities on the environment was developed. Each activity is currently being evaluated and ranked and this will identify where our greatest opportunities exist to reduce our carbon footprint.

In order to achieve the accreditation TOBIN Consulting Engineers have implemented environmental friendly policies throughout all six offices.  These policies are wide-ranging and involve all TOBIN employees developing and implementing the policies throughout the organisation.  These policies are based on the fundamentals of  “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” where possible. The in-depth audit of the offices also identified where  best practices  exist throughout the organisation and these were then implemented in all offices.

Based on these efforts TOBIN have been shortlisted in the category of  "Green Organisation Award".
