Emerald Group Publishing, the world’s leading publisher of management research, and CAPES library consortia (A Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superioris) are proud to announce they are offering two research grant awards. One will contribute to the development of management in Brazil, the other is specifically for the development of library information sciences. The funding grants of up to £2,500 in each case (US $4,000 equivalent) should address the dissemination of knowledge for social good with a specific focus towards the benefit of Brazil.
CAPES, who are celebrating the 8th anniversary of the CAPES Portal de Periódicos, formally launched the awards on the 11 November. Fernando Haddad, Minister of Education for Brazil was present at the event.
Dave Butler, Emerald Vice President for the Americas commented: “We are delighted to be working closely with CAPES and look forward to developing our relationship with them. The research fund awards demonstrate our long-term commitment to CAPES, and the academic and librarian communities within Brazil.” He added “In addition to the research grants, the winners will have the opportunity to receive the assistance of an experienced Emerald editor, or former editor, to help them write a high quality article and increase their chances of publication.”
To be eligible for the award, at least one member of the research team should be based in Brazil.

The closing date for applications is 1 May 2009. A short list will be completed by June 2009, with the winners being announced at the CAPES anniversary event in July 2009.
