Success stories of Linux within the server market are now also apparent in the simulation and control engineering markets. The open-source-based SCALE-RT real-time simulation software is an excellent example of this trend.

The Linux-based SCALE-RT real-time simulation environment offers a flexible host-target prototyping environment for applications running on a cost-efficient PC-compatible hardware. SCALE-RT is a scalable product based on open-source software, which includes the reliable Linux kernel and the real-time Xenomai extension. Xenomai is the base of a Linux kernel which can support hard real-time applications.

SCALE-RT has included by default the numerical computation package Scilab/Scicos®. This offers the user a highly integrated professional modeling environment. It supports the powerful multi-core processor architecture and a wide variety of I/O hardware. In addition SCALE-RT integrates with other modeling tools such as Matlab®, Simulink®, Stateflow®, SimulationX® and Dymola.

SCALE-RT is a professional software package offering a comprehensive environment for the development of hardware-in-the-loop simulation systems, rapid control prototyping applications and complex test systems.

A free trial version is available at www.scale-rt.com/download. This trial version has very few restrictions and will not expire. It even comes with free technical support until the 31st of December, 2008.
