Tales of Mr. Dhenchu-Panchu by author Maheshwar Sinha is a political satire incorporating animal characters as moderates, radicals, and conservatives. Each try to unseat the other and each use whatever means necessary to show any and all that their way is the best way to rule their kingdom.
Sound familiar?
Mr. Dhenchu is a radical, very well-spoken with new ideas. His agenda is to throw away old ideas and implement new ones. The Mad King is the extreme conservative with laws he doesn’t want to change. Then, there’s everything in between—moderates leaning toward the right and moderates leaning to the left.
Election Day is close and the village is fraught with confusion as each party tries to convince the people that their lives will be better if they vote for justice, peace and a better society. But which party best represents those qualities and who can the people trust?
Sinha delivers a compact, significant and satirical story that mimics modern-day politics, with one exception—in the end, everyone wins!
