Careers in Health Care on the Rise Despite Problem Economy

There’s no shortage of dismal headlines these days foretelling a global economic downturn. But a number of industries are showing healthy growth despite an uncertain economy.

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov 13, 2008 -
According to John Challenger, CEO of outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas, careers in Health Care show a good chance of weathering a storm this year.

Unlike some jobs, such as customer service, manufacturing or tech support, Health Care services can not be outsourced overseas. Nor is Health Care likely to be largely affected by a collective “tightening of the purse strings.” Even if Americans do curb household spending, Health Care should see little decline.

Kim Esquerre, Executive Director of Universal Schools & Colleges of Health and Human Services (U.S. Colleges) is keeping a keen eye on employment markets these days and had this to say about the state of Medical Careers. “We’re still seeing a high demand for our graduates. Especially for positions like Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, Phlebotomy, and Medical Administration.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that almost half of the 30 fastest growing occupations right now are in Health Services. “It might seem strange” says Esquerre, “but now is actually a really exciting time for our students and graduates. Technological advances and a growing need are fuelling a high demand for trained Health Care professionals and the coming year could see less job competition for new comers because some people will fear changing careers in an uncertain economy. I would encourage anyone interested in Health Care to make the move into this industry in the coming year.”

U.S. Colleges has five locations throughout Southern California and offers a variety of certificate programs for individuals interested in entering the Health Care field including Medical Billing, Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and Medical Administration. Courses run between 2 and 4 months in length.
