Devmir Inc. a sock manufacturer in North Carolina has introduced a line of organic socks under the Sierra Club brand in an online “sock-athon”
“With people trying to stretch their dollars this holiday season, this program appeals to shoppers who care about the environment and who would like to see their purchase help some of the over 750,000 homeless in the US, especially as we approach the cold winter months… and socks are a gift you can give to just about anyone.” said Diogenes Ruiz, program organizer.
The new line of Sierra Club socks are made from natural organic and eco friendly yarns, including certified organic cotton and bamboo, and recycled synthetics, all with recycled packaging. They come in ladies and men’s performance, dress and casual styles. Each pair of socks contains a special insert which describes the program and the donation being made to the homeless on the buyer’s behalf.
One of the sock-athon volunteers, Anora McGaha said, “With the gift giving season upon us, whether people buy just one pair, or 25, for Kwanza, Hanukkah, Christmas, Winter Solstice, New Years, Chinese New Year, or other religious and cultural holidays, the gift of socks from this sock-athon will touch many lives.”
Devmir plans to continue the donation program through the end of the year, or until one million pairs have been donated to the National Coalition for the Homeless.
