Young philanthropists converge to stimulate lasting social change at Full Circle Fund Forum, Philanthropy Remixed: A New Generation in Motion. Thursday, November 13, 2008, 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm Mark Hopkins Hotel, San Francisco, www.fullcirclefund.org

Nov. 12, 2008 - PRLog -- San Francisco, CA  ---  On the heels of one of the most important elections of our time, Full Circle Fund is mobilizing young leaders to transform hope into action. Everyone seems to agree this is a critical time for our country and the world.  Humanity faces massive challenges from global warming to improving our education system in the United States to global poverty.  How can Bay Area individuals respond?  As an organization, Full Circle Fund effectively pools the time, talent and connections of its members resulting in a magnified impact on the community.

On November 13, 2008, Full Circle Fund brings two of the world’s premier social-change innovators to “Philanthropy REMIXED” an evening of food and wine held at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco.  Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, who was instrumental in launching Google’s philanthropic arm, is the event’s keynote speaker. Attendees will get a chance to hear from Sandberg about her experience championing new philanthropy practices and innovative solutions that have been applied to drive social change. Nobel prize-winning microfinance pioneer Muhammad Yunus will address a group of investors at a private reception.

The event also honors social innovators Tom Steyer and Kat Taylor, co-founders of OneCalifornia Bank, an Oakland-based community development bank, and San Francisco public school reform champion Phil Halperin.

By highlighting some of the field’s newest and boldest ideas, Full Circle Fund’s Forum provides ways for citizens to get involved in this new young philanthropic community. The event also features an Action Expo of Bay Area organizations and a launch party and networking reception for the fund’s newest initiative, the Global Economic Opportunity Circle.

Forum Host Committee member Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi says Full Circle Fund, in "helping to alleviate the suffering that accompanies poverty around the world, by promoting economic self-sufficiency and teaching entrepreneurship ... is a model for communities everywhere."

Bay Area-based Full Circle Fund is a rapidly growing organization fostering the next generation of philanthropists. Its engaged young professionals are leveraging their time, money, skills and social networks to identify and help scale programs with the potential to aid positive, lasting shifts and change perspectives in approaches to the environment, education, technology, affordable housing and now, the global economy.

Last year, with the help of Vice President Al Gore, Full Circle Fund launched its Environment Circle. Today, Full Circle Fund’s membership, which has grown from 35 to 150 members in just three years, is currently working with a variety of partners to:
•   Tackle education reform by fostering dialogue around key issues such as teacher compensation.
•   Promote best green practices in government policy on everything from use of plastics, to building construction, to a website that will help cities share what they are doing and what’s working.
•   Assure there will be livable-wage, green-collar jobs for those being trained in new methods of construction, clean technology, urban agriculture and energy.
•   Build the capacity of an organization that installs solar panels in low-income homes, reducing energy bills for residents and providing training opportunities for green-collar workers.
•   Analyze ways to ignite innovative solutions and investment in issues around water.
•   Enhance the business plan for a technology startup organization pioneering a new marketplace for “community-funded journalism”.
