Thayer Hotel at West Point Offers Thanksgiving, Gingerbread Houses and Tree Lighting

The historic Thayer Hotel at West Point is offering a lavish Thanksgiving buffet, a Gingerhouse house display and Christmas tree lighting in their beautiful lobby.
 
Nov. 11, 2008 - PRLog -- The historic Thayer Hotel at West Point, will kick off the Holiday season with its famous Thanksgiving Day buffet on Thursday, November 27, followed by a Gingerbread House display from Monday, December 1 through Friday, December 5.  The Holiday kick-off will culminate on Friday, December 5 with the annual Tree Lighting in the hotel lobby.

First, indulge in the Thayer’s incredible Thanksgiving Day buffet with a traditional turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings.  The special Thanksgiving menu will include delicious appetizers like mushroom bisque soup, tomato bocconcini salad, pasta salad, chilled ratatouille, asparagus vinaigrette, and tossed greens.  

For the main course, visit the carving station for piping hot roasted turkey and roast prime rib herb au jus.   Other entrees include broiled salmon with sundried tomatoes, baked smoked pork loin in an apple brandy glaze, and baked stuffed shells.  

The Thanksgiving buffet will also offer a large array of seasonable vegetables including yellow squash, turnips, carrots, green beans, plus sage stuffing and mashed potatoes.
The dessert table promises delicacies to please every palate including pumpkin pie, carrot cake, éclairs, cream puffs, cheesecake and chocolate mousse.

The Thanksgiving buffet, open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is $39.95 per person, and $13.95 for children under 12, tax and gratuity not included.

The following day, the Thayer plays host to a delightful display of Gingerbread Houses, courtesy of students from the local area schools.  Enjoy the seasonal creations of these talented young people for an entire week.  

Then, on Friday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m., join the Thayer for its traditional Tree Lighting in the hotel lobby.  Savor some warm refreshments by the roaring fire while the Highland Falls Middle School choir performs the season’s favorite carols.

Built in 1926, the Thayer Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only full-service hotel on the Hudson River from the George Washington Bridge to Albany, New York.  Originally constructed to accommodate U.S. Military Academy personnel and their guests, the Thayer Hotel was a successor of the original West Point Hotel.  The Hotel is named for Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, Superintendent of the Academy from 1817 to 1833.
