Pastor Steve Flockhart's Sermon 'The Storm of Depression'

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 11, 2008 - Steve Flockhart, lead pastor at New Season Church in Hiram, GA delivered a sermon on 26th October' 2008 which was called 'The Storm of Depression'. The message is available on video through the website www.newseasonchurch.com. In this sermon, Pastor Flockhart mentions clinical depression as one of the major causes of suicide today. He says that even the strongest person can have weak movements in their lives due to the pressure of storms in their lives which can lead to depression.

He further states that the basic cause of depression is prolonged sadness, which lasts for a long time and goes so deep that the person loses interest in life. Steve Flockhart says that the Psalms and Proverbs, two books from the Old Testament of the Bible, can help a person to get out of their depression. Proverbs are the wisdom of God which help bring back the glory of life and the Psalms, which are the heart of God, beautifully express every emotion known to man. Together, they help a person to be emotionally and spiritually balanced.  Meditated on regularly, they help our feelings and emotions to remain strong – they help people to think right, believe right and act right.

Steve Flockhart says that a depressed person feels hopeless, helpless and futureless because he believes that he deserves all the bad things are happening to him. But in this depressed state if the person focuses of God, His word, and His power in their lives, it can work as a shield against negative thoughts and 'mind games'.  God's presence and forgiveness provides the strength to get out of the depression. Steve Flockhart recommends reading the Songs of David (Psalms) from the Bible to help a person understand their condition and come out of it.
