Aswathy Mathew, Event Coordinator at Al Noor said, “The event was an initiative to engage special needs children in a creative process so that they understand the importance of water as a precious resource. Brilliant ideas were depicted on the worksheets. Babyshop’s in house magician put on an entertaining Magic Show which had the children laughing and wonderstruck with amazement at the tricks. The involvement of the corporate sector in arranging such activities shows the community spirit that companies foster and promote.”
In addition to the workshop and the magic show, Babyshop, the leading children’s retailer in the region, also gifted the Al Noor Centre a bag of new toys for its toy library based on a wish list provided by its children. At the end of the workshop Babyshop gifted goodie bags containing toys to each participating child. Troy Zunckel, General Manager of Babyshop, said: “Children with special needs are important members of society just as any of us. We firmly believe that such children are supremely talented and have excellent creative skills which are at par with normal children if not better, we have always believed in giving back to the society and nothing could have been better than this opportunity. We are grateful to Al Noor Centre for giving us the opportunity to reach out to these children and involve them in the ‘Save Water’ campaign.”
The children were treated to a savoury breakfast courtesy Coral Boutique Hotel Apartments, Al Barsha. Hina Bakht, Vice President, MPJ-Marketing Pro-Junction, said, “The Al Noor children demonstrated remarkable interest and sensitivity during the workshop. Children with special needs should experience art like other children. Research shows that it helps to build their confidence and knowledge. Children between the ages of 6 and 11 years are taking part in the SAVE WATER campaign initiated by The Ministry of Education. An anticipated 100,000 children from more than 700 public and private schools will be participating in the contest. And it is only fair that children with special needs are given a chance to be a part of it.”
Zunckel feels that everyone should begin thinking about the environment and take measures on an individual level to protect and conserve resources. He added, “Power saving, energy saving, reducing, reusing are all important steps in tackling environmental issues. No matter how small the individual effort, every drop counts. We all need to join hands to bequeath a beautiful world to our children.”
