MANILA. CCP Publishing today proudly announced the launch of their on-line newsletter, The Philippines Security News. This project has been in the planning stages for some time already.
According to the Editor in Chief, S. Mangilit, the idea for the newsletter came from the many complaints from foreigners with a concern for their safety while in the Philippines. "Many foreigners approached us with questions regarding various secuirty issues, ranging from how to deal with corruption to the insurgencies in southern Mindanao.' So many of them had received inaccurate information, either inflated storeis of killings and kidnappings, or assurances that a particular place was safe, when we knew otherwise."
A search of available information on security and safety issues in the Philippines yielded similar results. Ther are many discussion groups targeted at foreigners living or traveling here. Most of the information in these groups is one-sided, either written to frighten people, or on the other extreme, lulling them into a false sense of security. We also found publications that were compiled by people who have never been to the Philippines, and some professional newsletters that are extremely expensive, because they focus on large businesses and their security concerns.
The security alerts issued by the various foreign embassies in Manila are good, but often overy cautious, maybe because they don't want to be blamed for any unfortunate incidents happening to one of their citizens.
CCP Publishing decided that based on market surveys there was a real need for an inexpensive, accurate, and professionally compiled publication that anyone with personal or business interests in the Philippines could have access to.
The Philippine Security News is available for only US$14.95 a year. Twelve informative issues delivered to the subscriber's inbox. The editorial staff can also develop specific security advice and risk analysis for a certain area. These services ar available as an adhoc service, individually billed.
