Pakistanis Respond To Balochistan Earthquake

IT Professionals at Hambra IT Raise Funds for the Earthquake Victims
 
Nov. 7, 2008 - PRLog -- Pakistanis are once again shaken by the news of an earthquake hitting the Balochistan province on Wednesday, October 29, 2008. Still reeling from the effects of October, 2005 earthquake and in the midst of other political and economical turmoil, this earthquake further tests the nation’s resilience.  Pakistanis all over the world and from every walk of life are gearing up to play their part in rebuilding the lives of devastated people in Balochistan.

Hambra IT, a US based IT development and consultancy firm owned by Pakistani American Entrepreneurs, has set a goal to raise 50,000 rupees by initiating an employee matching program contributing rupees five for every one rupee donated by its employees working at the company’s International Development Centre (IDC) in Karachi, Pakistan. The funds will be handed over to Edhi Foundation to be utilized for relief efforts for the Balochistan earthquake affectees.

'We were shocked by the tragedy in Pakistan and decided to make use of our resources to raise money for the earthquake victims”. Mr. Akif Rehman, Owner and President Hambra IT, noted.  “Apart from its monetary value, this initiative is important because it proves that expatriates have not forgotten Pakistan”. He added.

Hambra IT’s Employees in Pakistan adhered to their social responsibility by contributing generously when the initiative was launched. "This is a terrible catastrophe for our country but I am incredibly proud of the response from our staff in Pakistan and hope that our donation will help in bringing some relief to the people affected by the earthquake”. Said Mr. Junaid Noor, an American born Pakistani, Hambra IT’s owner and VP of Offshore Development.

Mr. Murtaza Moinuddin, who is CRM Manager at Hambra IDC, expressed, “Monetarily IT Community in Pakistan is a well paid section of the society as compared to other professions. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to return something back to the people.  The very least we can do is financially help those who are suffering due to this calamity”.
