Mrs. Harle Tinney, the owner of Belcourt Castle, is inviting the public to join with her for a special Christmas tea honoring world peace.
Belcourt, the third largest mansion in Newport, was designed by Richard Morris Hunt, “the Dean of American Architects”, for Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont. The 60-room mansion cost 3 million dollars in 1894, a figure of approximately 75 million dollars in 2007. Belcourt Castle is also the only estate in Newport which is both regularly open to the public and has a private owner in residence.
In 1956, the Tinney Family purchased the property and opened it as a museum in 1957.
For more than 50 years, the Tinney Family has dedicated itself to preserving the grandeur of Belcourt Castle by saving all the original work possible.
Mrs. Tinney is inviting the public to come in and warm up with a cup of tea or hot mulled cider and join her for a special tour of the grand mansion, with yuletide music and holiday pastries on Sunday afternoons December 7th, 14th and 21st from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Admission is $35.00 for adults, $28.00 for seniors 60 and over, $10.00 for children 6 to12, under 6 free. Reservations are required.
