FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Nov 03, 2008 – Louisville, Colo. — Citron Work Spaces, Colorado’s environmentally focused office furniture resource partner, has moved into its newly constructed space at 197 S. 104th Street in Louisville. The facility, which took a year to design and build, is currently being evaluated for LEED® certification for commercial interiors.

The location gives Citron an 8,000-square-foot working showroom and 11,000 square feet of warehouse space, including a large used-furniture display area. It features a number of environmentally friendly features, including recycled street lamps from New Orleans in the main showroom; fluorescent lighting controlled by motion-sensing switches or timers; and water-conserving bathroom fixtures.

All the paint and adhesives used at the facility are non-toxic and water-based with low VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions to protect indoor air quality; all appliances are ENERGY STAR-rated; and the furniture on display and used by Citron employees is GREENGUARD-certified for low chemical and particle emissions. Large windows bring natural light in, and the project used recycled, recyclable or renewable/sustainable products like bamboo flooring wherever possible.

Citron’s Director of Design, Kim Tyrrell, noted “Our motivation in designing this space was to go beyond just telling the good environmental story. We want to really live that story. We can talk to clients about sustainability until we’re ‘green in the face,’ but when they see us making this effort, and taking our own advice, and when they see what a showroom and green work environment can be like, that really drives the message home.”

As part of the process to have the facility certified under the LEED Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) standard, Tyrrell, Citron President Kathey Pear and several other designers and account managers are pursuing LEED accreditation, which will enable them to better assist clients interested in environmentally healthy workspaces. Citron is also working on a new online community resource to help mitigate the more than 8.8 million tons of office furniture that ends up as landfill waste. The site, which is scheduled to go live by the end of October, will help business owners, facilities managers, real estate professionals, and others who want to help keep furniture out of landfills.

The U.S. Green Building Council states that LEED-CI is the green benchmark for the tenant improvement market. It is the recognized system for certifying high-performance green interiors that are healthy, productive places to work; are less costly to operate and maintain; and have a reduced environmental footprint. LEED-CI gives the power to make sustainable choices to tenants and designers, who do not always have control over whole building operations.

About LEED Certification
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality. It was created by The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that certifies sustainable businesses, homes, hospitals, schools, and neighborhoods. USGBC is dedicated to expanding green building practices and education, and its LEED Green Building Rating System. For more information, visit www.usgbc.org.
