Guest speaker Donald Nixdorf, DDS, MS, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota in the Division of TMD & Orofacial Pain with an adjunct position in the Depatrment of Neurology. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of chronic TMD pain, headaches and neuropathic pain. Dr. Nixdorf's research is focused on the topic of "neuropathic tooth pain", looking at issues related to diagnosis, classification, epidemiology and mechanisms of this type of face pain. Currently he has a 2012 career development grant from the National Institute of Health that seeks to establish a method of assessing central aspects of "neuropathic tooth pain" using functional magnetic resonance imaging.
