Static Capto Tool Holder From MD Tooling
MD Tooling, Howell, MI is pleased to announce they have gone Capto®. A licensing agreement has been reached with Sandvik Coromant to implement the Coromant Capto® connection to the complete line of static and driven tool holders available through MD Tooling.
Since 1990 the Coromant Capto connection has been embraced by manufacturers because of the significant advantages it offers, including greater rigidity, repeatability and quick change capability. The design of the system is based on a tapered polygon shank and face contact. The polygon shape transmits torque symmetrically, without any loose parts, as opposed to traditional couplings that use one or two keys. Additionally, the polygon shape of the shank causes the coupling to naturally be self centering, which further maintains correct center height.
The quick change capability of the Coromant Capto connection can benefit manufacturers of all sizes. Shops with small runs, where set-up times consume a large portion of machine time, can see significant gains with the increased ability to reconfigure the turret in just a few steps and the ability to create multiple unique tool configurations. Whereas large production shops can benefit from the repeatability of the tool as well as being able to quickly change the cutting index unit when needed.
MD Tooling has extensive lines of tools available for Mori Seiki, Doosan, Nakamura, Eurotech, Okuma, Hyundai-Kia as well as smaller lines for some of the others including Haas and Mazak. Preparations are underway to complete the across-the-board adaptation of the Capto connection to existing tool choices.
