Crosland, one of the Triangle’s leading real estate companies, was announced as a winner in the Triangle Business Journal’s 1st annual GREEN Awards. In the “For-Profit Action Program” category, Crosland was recognized for its Sustainable Placemaking Design Challenge that was held during May and June of this year.
Architectural, engineering, planning and construction professionals from as far away as Australia submitted entries. Crosland’s 16-member interdisciplinary Green Team had to narrow the finalists to five.
“The amount of effort and passion that the teams put forth in responding to the challenge was overwhelming, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to a sustainable future,” said Jenny Vallimont, Crosland’s manager of sustainability.
Crosland’s design challenge was created to convey the importance of sustainable development practices for future Crosland projects and to increase community-wide expectations to implement practices that are successful from an economic, environmental and social perspective. Triangle-based design firms JDavis Architects and JS Architecture participated in the challenge, and the winning team was a conglomerate of seven companies called EarthCREW.
The GREEN awards were presented Oct. 23, at the North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. While 95 entries were submitted, 28 Triangle-area businesses were recognized for demonstrating a commitment to employing environmentally responsible practices.
Crosland is a member of the U.S. National Green Building Council, employs seven LEED Accredited Professionals and is currently developing three LEED-related projects.
