R&b Star And Former Black Panther Party Leader Honored For Exemplary Contributions To The Community

The Black Cotton Foundation calls Keyshia Cole and Ericka Huggins true inspirations to the people in our community. Their life examples are standards for future generations to follow.

Oct. 29, 2008 - PRLog -- (New York, NY)- R&B superstar Keyshia Cole and former Black Panther Party leader Ericka Huggins has been named as the recipients of The Dr. Betty Bahiyah Shabazz Award.  “This award is in recognition for their consistent and positive contributions to their communities,” Black Cotton Foundation's Chairman Raheim Singleton announced today.

The award is given by The Black Cotton Foundation, a not for profit organization in the NY Metro area, to a person or family whose life and actions became a positive force in their communities despite suffering a tragic loss or facing many overwhelming obstacles of their own. Dr. Betty Shabazz overcame many obstacles in her life to become an iconic figure in our history. The Black Cotton Foundation dedicates this award to her in hopes that by passing on her legacy, people in the community will be influenced and inspired; her story shows that despite the obstacles and tragedies that we may face in our lives, we should never accept ordinary and always go for extraordinary. “These two recipients, epitomize the essence of this special award”, said Singleton, “and we are ecstatic to have them as this year’s recipients.”

The recipients will be honored during an Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at The Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial, Educational, and Cultural Center (3940 Broadway, New York, NY 10032) at 7:00pm. This event is free. There is also a fundraiser reception before the ceremony at 5:30pm ($50 admission, students and seniors $15). All proceeds will go to The Shabazz Center. The foundation also ask that all guests to bring in canned goods to donate to feed the homeless in the community
