Noblis, Inc., a nonprofit science, technology and strategy organization based in Falls Church, Virginia, was named one of five technology companies selected for the national capital area 2008 Green Leadership Awards. The award will be presented at a ceremony tonight in Rockville, Maryland.
Sponsored by Bisnow on Business, the Tower Companies, the U.S. Green Building Council – National Capital Region, and the George Washington University, the 2008 Green Leadership Awards are designed to honor the best examples of how to promote green goals and benefits. More than 100 technology companies were nominated in the national capital area.

Noblis was recognized by the Green Leadership committee for its new carbon footprint analysis software. Utilizing its greenhouse gas (GHG) enterprise model, Noblis estimates its energy-saving efforts have cut its carbon emissions by 160.72 tons, or more than seven percent, in the first six months of 2008 compared to the same time period in 2007.
The Noblis model also has the potential to help other companies reduce their carbon footprint, which increases the likelihood that Noblis energy-savings, emissions and waste reduction contributions will expand beyond its particular efforts to benefit the greater Washington Metropolitan area and the global environment. A diverse group of 12 organizations is currently participating in a test of the model software, including state and local government agencies, non profits, trade associations, defense contractors, and other industry representatives.
ElSawy noted Noblis also has taken a leadership role in recycling efforts. Its computer recycling program was the first to be instituted voluntarily by a business in Fairfax County, Virginia. In the past year, approximately 32 percent of the total Noblis waste stream was recycled, amounting to 33.9 tons. For the fourth consecutive year, Noblis has been awarded the 2007-2008 Fairfax County Business Recycling Excellence Award.
