For 2,555 days I've worked through Washington DC learning the system, departments and processes. Capitol Hill is inefficient, ineffective and needs serious reform...it's dysfunctionality is an oxymoron to the intentions of the founding fathers.
When you look in the eyes of officials and staffers and their only concern is their pension or job, you know that you have an uphill battle. Yet, my trust in God and the story of David and Goliath keeps me slinging my tiny stones towards the forehead of the giant. Now is the time to get a direct hit between the eyes!
The details of my journey through the system would fill a book and certainly be an interesting movie. This short version will give you a taste and names the names of those who have helped and those who have hindered.
Former Senator Frist is travelling to Africa and appearing to support large scale initiatives however both Sharon Stone and I have both experienced his sexism. He grabbed Sharon Stones leg at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos and told her to sit down and shut up when she appealed for support for bed nets to prevent Malaria. He threatened her with expulsion. Of course, she continued and told him if the suits couldn't solve the problem then let the people.
In 2004, after a detailed meeting showing him the Business Plan, written funding offers with Senator Frist's Legislative Director, Allein Moore, he said "How can you do this if the Global Health Fund can't".
An estimate 4,380,000 orphans in Africa have died since then.
The Capitol Hill guys are so stuck in Government grant and budget models even though all I've done is to apply a public/private funding model that has been successfully used for over 60 years in the DOD to the social sector working horizontally across the planet bringing resources from different sectors to assemble the ingredients required.
