FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Oct 24, 2008 – When we mention elephants what image comes to your mind?

To Supachet Bhumakarn it is definitely more than the grey mammoth of a creature. To Supachet, an up and coming young artist from Thailand, elephants come in all shapes and sizes and all have a personality of their own.

In his paintings, Supachet’s elephants can talk. Rich in imaginative colors, beaming with energy and movement that resembles human emotions, the elephants in their abstract forms each tells a unique story of its own.

A graduate from the Faculty of Fine arts in Chiangmai University, Supachet has been a professional artist for over ten years. Since 1996 he had participated in various exhibitions and had held solo exhibitions in Bangkok. Known for his unique portraits of abstract elephants in Thailand, Supachet has been painting pictures of the Thai national symbol for six years. This coming November, over 40 of his acrylics shall be on view for the first time in Hong Kong.

‘The elephant portrait is the voice of my heart’, says the 30 year old artist. ‘It’s about finding freedom and peace in my mind...people meditates to achieve a peaceful mind and my artwork also conveys that’. Last summer Supachet had the opportunity to showcase his work at D’Annecy in France at a month-long Thai Festival that includes Thai cuisine as well as Thai culture.
According to Supachet ‘at the festival, people told me they liked my work…they wanted to see artwork that they can relate to…they find my work cheerful and communicative.’

‘Fly Fly Fly’ is one of the artist’s favorites that will be on view at the upcoming exhibition. The painting shows an elephant crusing in the sky, amidst a backdrop of trees, flowers and birds. The confident and powerful  solid red of the elephant contrasts with the soft, delicate and colorful details of the flowers and birds, showing movement and stillness in a most peaceful and harmonious exposition. To Supachet this painting is inspired by his habit of reviewing what he has done each day before going to bed. And as he falls asleep his thoughts are left afloat leaving him a sense of peace and freedom.

Elephants Can Talk’ will be on view from November 26 to December 17, 2008 at the Gallery by the Habrour at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui daily from 11:00am to 9:00pm. Come and experience for yourself how elephants can talk.
