At Steiger Facial Plastic Surgery, the Miami native -- who received advanced facial plastic and reconstructive surgery training in a fellowship guided by Dr. Shan Baker, current president of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – eschews offering the full range of cosmetic surgery enhancements, lotions and potions, instead focusing only on proven facial surgeries and associated rejuvenation procedures.
“My specialized training and knowledge of the most up-to-date options in the field allows me to develop a treatment plan that combines the best of traditional techniques and the most innovative advancements and products in the field to create optimal results for clients,” notes Steiger, who served as a faculty member in head and neck surgery with the University of Michigan School of Medicine prior to relocating back to South Florida.
“That said, and in keeping with my academic medical center training, I’m very particular about what we offer at the practice,” he added. “I’m not one to jump on a bandwagon, but rather prefer to help navigate my patients to the procedure or procedures that have proven to be the optimal choice for best results.”
In the non-invasive arena, Dr. Steiger is augmenting popular fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm and Botox with Evolence, a new dermal filler just approved by the FDA for the correction of moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds. Evolence is engineered through advanced technology that allows it to last longer than traditional collagen and offers minimal to no bruising or swelling, allowing Dr. Steiger to gauge the amount of wrinkle correction with even more precision.
Among the advanced procedures in his surgical toolbox is a “3-D approach” to facial rejuvenation, in which Dr. Steiger performs facelifts that correct not only weakened ligaments, skin laxity and sagging anatomic fat pads, but also incorporate facial fat transfer using the patient’s own fat. The fat is distilled in the operating room and then transplanted into specific areas of the face to re-create the facial volume that dissipates with aging. The end result is a face that is more plump and youthful rather than tight and taut.
Dr. Steiger often applies the technique in lower eyelid procedures as well. “Because it is such a precious facial commodity, I rarely remove fat when I perform lower eyelid surgery, instead using the substance to fill in the transition zone between the eye and the cheek,” he notes. “This prevents a hollowed-out look that is often seen after lower lid procedures.”
Further, the board-certified otolaryngologist is an expert at both primary rhinoplasty and revision surgery to correct cosmetic and functional nasal deficits, an area in which he has been widely published and delivers presentations about to national and international audiences.
His best-of-breed approach already has garnered Dr. Steiger a faithful patient following.
“With all of the information that is readily available to those considering plastic surgery and the many choices of procedures that exist, it is important prospective patients truly understand what will work best for them,” Dr. Steiger says. “I look forward to serving as their steward in making wise choices that will satisfy their needs.”
