Oct. 23, 2008 - PRLog -- What has been called a “life changing” Model is now available to the general public.  Bethesda Family Services Foundation would like to announce the availability of its nationally-recognized Relational Healing curriculum.  Developed for youth service providers, corrections staff, family intervention organizations, counselors, teachers, and other group facilitators, this curriculum helps individuals heal emotional wounds caused by those who have offended or betrayed them.  It is set forth as a defined strategy intended to provide a remedy for the “wounded soul.”   The curriculum, which includes a Leadership Manual, offers facilitators in-depth insight into the root causes of these soul wounds and how to lead groups or individuals on the healing journey. To be used in conjunction with the manual, the Relational Healing Journal involves many inner thought provoking assignments, leading the individual through The Four Steps to Emotional Healing©, guiding them toward resolving conflict and reconciling relationships.  In the DVD training series, Dominic Herbst provides instruction and examples in a highly motivational fashion, taking viewers through the 12 session healing process. Filmed in front of a live audience, this training supplements the curriculum (Manual and Journal) with a step-by-step detailed explanation of the Relational Healing Model. These publications were made available in part by grants from the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Office of Family Assistance.

These materials are currently being used by the National Basketball Association (NBA) as well as a number of programs throughout the country, including schools, juvenile treatment programs and adult correctional facilities in the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Washington, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Mexico, Virginia, Michigan, Minnesota, and Indiana.

AND, research has proven the Model’s effectiveness.  Dr. Kathleen Watts, as part of her doctoral dissertation, assessed the impact of the Bethesda Relational Healing and Peer Governance Models at a private school in Dallas, Texas.  Dr. Watts’ research study concluded that the Bethesda Relational Healing Model and Peer Governance Program “effectively improved student/ student, student/staff, and child/parent relationships and improved student behavior and the overall school behavioral climate.”  Quantitatively, the data showed a 45% reduction in average detentions per student for the 2½ years following the introduction of the Bethesda program as compared to the average for the year of introduction (2004-2005) and the year prior (2003-2004).
