Devon Ellington's Writing Blitz

Author Devon Ellington announces new publication of novellas, short stories, and an upcoming play.

Oct. 22, 2008 - PRLog -- Author Devon Ellington plays the publishing field.. Her paranormal action/adventure novella Hex Breaker, the first of the Jain Lazarus adventures, was released by FireDrakes Weyr Publishing in August, continues to sell briskly, and the second book in the series, Old-Fashioned Detective Work just went to contract.  A short story featuring these characters, “The Possession of Nattie Filmore” will be available as a free PDF download  on the Jain Lazarus site (http://hexbreaker.devonellingtonwork.com) in time for Halloween!
Her action/adventure/pirate fantasy story “The Merry’s Dalliance” (under the Cerridwen Iris Shea name) is featured in the Fall 2008 issue of New Myths, and more tales featuring the fantastic adventures of the Merry and her crew are forthcoming.  Her comic noir mystery play Till Death Do They Part will open Cloverleaf Theatre’s January 2009 season.  Previous plays were produced in New York, London, Edinburgh, and Australia.
Ellington balances her writing career with working backstage on Broadway, publishing under a half a dozen names in fiction and non-fiction.  Her work appears in publications as diverse as FEMMEFAN, NEW MYTHS, VISION, BLESSED GARDENS, THEMA, THE SAVVY GAL, TOASTED CHEESE, THE SCRUFFY DOG REVIEW, ESPRESSO FICTION, WILD CHILD, THE ROSE AND THORN, HAMPTON FAMILY LIFE, THE ARMCHAIR DETECTIVE, and ELLE.
“My time working backstage definitely made me a better writer,” she says.  “Listening to shows evolve night after night gave me a firm foundation in character development, structure, and dialogue.  It’s as relevant to prose and non-fiction as to playwrighting.  Plus, I’ve gotten to work with wonderful people, on and off stage.  All those experiences coalesce in the work.”
She just finished teaching her popular “Dialogue Workshop” for the second consecutive year at the internationally acclaimed Muse Online Writers’ Conference, and plans to mentor a small group of writers for her fourth foray into National Novel Writing Month in November.  “Last year, I mentored thirty-four writers while doing my own work,” she says.  “It was a little much.”
She provides business writing services to a wide variety of international clients, teaches workshops, offers affordable e-booklet downloads for writers through the Devon Ellington Website (www.devonellingtonwork.com/bazaar.html), provides private critiques and coaching, all while balancing fiction, non-fiction, and Broadway.  She covers the Breeders’ Cup (Oct. 24-25) once again this year for FEMMEFAN.
