Local Election Forums on Zirana.com

Zirana.com, a new online media platform for local communities, announced that it is enabling discussions by citizens about local elections on its sites for small towns across California. These discussions can take place on Zirana’s online forums.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Oct 21, 2008 – SAN JOSE — Zirana.com, a new online media platform for local communities, announced that it is enabling online discussions, among local citizens, about  local elections, on its websites for small towns all across California. These discussions can take place on Zirana’s online forums which are city specific and are open to all residents of those towns. Zirana is also providing details of local elections on its website, to enable informed discussions to take place. These details include the names of the candidates along with the positions being contested , and also details of any local measures and propositions on the ballot.
The announcement was made by Sanjiv Sahay, Zirana CEO, from the company’s headquarters at 3040 Moorpark Avenue, Suite 109, San Jose, California. “This will enable residents to get more deeply involved with their local communities” Sahay said. He added that now people will be able to see different viewpoints on one forum and will be able to easily add their opinions to the discussion. Residents can thus make more informed choices about the local ballot. Zirana encourages all community activists to put their views and opinions online so that others can understand the issues, and the different points of view about them, and come to their own conclusions.

Zirana.com focuses on communities with populations of 25,000- 250,000, which are not fully served by mainstream media.  It seeks to provide local news and information including crime reports, events, school news, prep sports, obituaries, weather and real estate transactions.

Zirana also provides city-based platforms for local affinity groups and online forums for residents to express themselves on local issues. User-generated content is encouraged on the site and users can submit local news items with photos and post events and classifieds. Zirana also enables residents to connect and interact with each other online. Zirana has websites for towns in all fifty states of the United States.

Zirana’s community news sites are accessible from http://www.zirana.com.
