Oct. 21, 2008 - PRLog -- Mark Lund, the writer and producer of the 25 minute sci-fi short film First World, is pleased to announce the premiere of First World at the First Ever National Discussion on Science Fiction in Varanasi, India on November 10th.
The short film version of First World is based on the feature length screenplay of the same name written by Lund in 2006 and nominated for a Best Screenplay award by the California Independent Film Festival in 2007. Set in the year 2018, First World is based on a fictional account of what NASA discovered and covered up during the Apollo program which is now unraveling on the eve of the next space race to the Moon between China and the United States.
The First Ever National Discussion on Science Fiction brings together the National Council of Science and Technology Communication, New Delhi; Indian Science Fiction Writers’ Association, Faizabad; and Indian Association of Science Fiction Studies, Vallore for the express purpose of creating a discussion aimed at focusing on various aspects of science fiction and its role in communicating science and technology related issues to the people of India.  (http://researchandmedia.ning.com/profiles/blog/show?id=70....)
First World will also mark its 20th screening at the New England Fan Experience sci-fi convention at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts on November 22nd (http://www.nefe.us/). To date, the short film has screened at 19 sci-fi conventions in the United States, Australia, Japan, Great Britain and Ireland.
“As we work to secure production of the feature length version of First World, I am delighted to continue to see the domestic and international interest in the short film,” said Lund.
In July, IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) invited First World to publish the complete 25 minute short on its web site. As of August, the complete short film version of First World and its two minute trailer is now available online. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1056062/
“Having the short available to the more than 50 million movie enthusiasts that visit IMDb each month has introduced First World to a global audience of fans and interested parties,” said Lund. “We have been in discussion with several producers over the last few months and we hope those conversations continue to move in a positive direction towards our goal of a feature length production.”
First World’s official web site can be found at www.firstworldmovie.com with MySpace at www.myspace.com/firstworldmovie..
