Doherty’s Named Entrepreneur of the Year

Oct. 21, 2008 - PRLog -- Tim and Valerie Doherty were awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award during the Minnesota Cup Award Event at the McNamara Center on the University of Minnesota campus.  

“Tim and I want to thank everyone involved with the Carlson School of Management for this honor,” said Valerie Doherty, CEO of Doherty Employment Group.  “When John Stavig and Mary Schmidt from the Gary S. Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota came to our office to tell us that we had been nominated for this award, we were surprised, humbled and thrilled.”

Doherty continued, “Growing up in Litchfield as one of six children of a truck driver and a homemaker, never did I dream that one day I would have graduated from college and law school, become an owner of a business and be here to accept such a prestigious award.”

“This is a terrific success story of an entrepreneurial couple working together over a 25+ year period to build one of Minnesota’s outstanding businesses,” said John Stavig, professional director of the Gary S. Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.  “Working as a true entrepreneurial team, they have utilized technology and creativity to provide innovative services that add value to their clients.  We’re proud to recognize them with this award and to claim them as our alumni.”

Chairman Tim Doherty added, “I cannot emphasize how much this honor and recognition of our work means to us at this time. The Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Carlson School of Management is one of the highest honors that our company, and we personally, have ever received.”

Both Tim and Valerie are alumni of the University of Minnesota.   Tim Doherty is active at the University’s Carlson School of Management where he frequently speaks to MBA classes.  Tim and Valerie have been active supporters of the entrepreneurship program at the Carlson School.
