Lipikaar, the first software world-wide to enable typing in 16 languages using the ordinary keyboard, has won the Manthan Award for South Asia, 2008. This honor was bestowed in the category of 'e-Localization', highlighting Lipikaar's ease-of-use and wide range of applications on the PC and the Internet.
This year Manthan received 284 nominations across 13 categories. Participating countries were India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka. Manthan winners were chosen based on their potential to bring Information Technology to the masses.
On Lipikaar's selection, the Manthan jury members stated, "Lipikaar works with the same English keyboard without being fluent in English. The typing method is unambiguous and efficient, making it very easy and enjoyable to type out stories, articles and documents in your chosen language. On the desktop, Lipikaar unlocks the potential of the PC for use with regional languages. On the Internet, Lipikaar offers the possibility of professional & user generated content, communication and other applications, remote banking and financial services."
The Lipikaar team received the award from Padma Bhushan Shri Anna Hazare, at the award gala held on October 18, 2008. The Manthan Conclave was a grand three-day event at New Delhi comprising of parallel tracks, round tables, showcases, micro conferences, and exhibitions attended by stakeholders in the Information Communication Technology and Digital content domains.
