Things can go very wrong without planning, information and knowledge. The plan or strategy for the race, up to date information about the track, the weather, competitors and then knowledge, all are necessary. When Rohan Skea was involved with Skea Racing, the information and the decisions required could be overwhelming at times with so much at stake.
According to Rohan Skea following are the key things important for Skea Racing cars at all times and can never be underestimated:
• The biggest challenge of a racing team and race car driver is tyre management. Firstly getting cold slicks cooked in the warm up lap is a real skill, then reading the weather conditions, track temperatures, tyre performance and competitors to make sure you make the right tyre decisions and maximizing their performance takes real skill.
• Pit crews are critical. Pit crew training even more so. Training ensures they have a tolerance to within around a minute to know exactly how long it takes to perform their allocated tasks.
• In longer races, play to your driver’s strengths if there is more than 1, who drives better in the dark, who drives in wet weather etc.
• Hydration is critical, but the trade off is weight to maximize top end.
