According to a report published by the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), major depression affects approximately 15 million American adults in a given year and while most can’t see a means to an end, depression is in fact, one of the most treatable illnesses: 80-90% find relief. Connecting gift givers to gift recipients has become a means to an end for Hobbs who has found that being in the forefront of strengthening connections between individuals has boosted her self confidence, replenished her esteem and allows her to be part of something personable.

Depression can be very paralyzing. “I love being a mom but always felt empty inside and lacked energy. It was hard to hold down a normal 9-5. I’ve seen therapist and even tried medication but none of these seemed to work.” “My mom smiles more. It began as a hobby, making gift baskets for family and friends who praised her work and gave her validation she so desperately desired. Starting a gift basket business (or any business for that matter) wasn’t easy.  She enrolled in the Philadelphia Development Partnership Young Entrepreneur Program which teaches young people (ages 18-30) the basic principals of starting and running a business including how to write a business plan and providing resources, networking opportunities and capital to help them succeed. Upon graduation, she was awarded Most Inspiring Entrepreneur, a feat that seemed impossible just mere months ago.
