Google webmaster tools has a new feature which allows you to see who is linking to your http 404 pages (page not found) .This great little tool will list all your links which are broken. To use this tool, click on diagnostics, then web crawl and select 'not found'.
When Googlebot crawls the web and goes from link to link it won't give you full credit for the links. Meaning that your time spent creating the links will have been a waste of time. To add to this 404 page not found is off putting to visitors.
Once you have the list you can get to work fixing the errors and get the links to your site up and running again.
