Editors Notes
The National Congenital Heart Association is a non profit charity dedicated to helping both children, who are suffering with Congenital Heart defects, and their families.
Most children with heart defects have spent many painful weeks and months confined to hospitals undergoing extensive heart surgery.

The National Congenital Heart Association has two vital roles, First as a support network for children and their families, Secondly it is dedicated to raising awareness and lobbying for the rights of congenital heart patients.

In our supporting role The National Congenital Heart Association provides a community of volunteers to conduct regular ward visits for parents and children during their time in the hospital.
Another goal is to bring families and patients together at social events, where they can meet with other similar families, share experiences and make new friends, with others who also have ’special hearts’

One of the key tools we use to raise awareness and keep the Congenital Heart Defect Community updated is our website, which offers a wide variety of information that includes our latest news and events, family support advice, medical information sheets, details of how we raise funds and receive donations.

Our lobbing and raising awareness mission is to urge Members of Congress and other government agencies to support policies that will help raise public awareness and improve diagnostics on all new born babies to reduce death and disability from deadly congenital heart disease.

We also lobby for increased funding for congenital heart research by such critical research organizations as the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Sadly, NIH invests only seven percent of its annual budget on heart research which includes all types of heart conditions such as adult heart disease. Over the past five years, NIH funding for cardiovascular research has declined by fifteen percent. We must increase our investment in heart research to bring us closer to medical solutions and cures.
