Award-winning indie film 'Defying Gravity' will screen at the La Femme Film Festival at the Fine Arts , 8556 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Friday October 17. Accepted to nine film festivals and winner of four awards including Best Narrative Feature, the movie will be released worldwide in February 2009.
'Defying Gravity' is a quirky dramedy about a runaway girl who lives in a Jewish cemetery. She is befriended by the cemetery caretaker (an illegal alien), a transvestite waitress, and a homeless young man haunted by mathematical and religious delusions. The movie has previously screened at the Digital Video & High Def Festival in Beverly Hills (where it won Best Story/Writing)
The movie has been described as "... a funny, poignant and always interesting little film, built on well-designed characters and a fine story." (Dan Bennett, North County Times Newspaper). An article about the making of 'Defying Gravity' is featured in the 'Reel Life Adventures' section of the March/April issue of Indie Slate magazine: 'Defying the Odds: How a Middle-Aged Math Teacher Became an Indie Producer.'
Running Oct. 16-19, the 4th annual LA Femme Film Festival is more than a festival, it is an emergence of artistic, professional women who can make a difference in the entertainment community by creating productions that speak to a world wide audience. It is the only festival of its kind to not only platform existing films and artists but will also distribute and mentor such films and artists. The schedule of events includes screenings of features, documentaries, and shorts; parties, and seminars with industry experts. More information about the festival, including ticket purchase, can be found at http://lafemme.org.
