Follow on Google News | DS wins RFID contract with Dudley Metropolitan Borough CouncilDS today announced it had won a 5-year contract with Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council to supply its RFID technology and services to all libraries in the borough.
By: DS and Axiell DS iTAG will be the first RFID solution for Dudley and initially it will be used in library links and two library refurbishments to allow greater access to services for local people. In addition it will be used for stock management and to assess stock usage and stock loss. Over time Dudley will introduce self-service across the borough using DS iTAG to enable customers to issue and return items, check their account and make payments. Dudley selected DS iTAG through a stringent tender process. DS iTAG offers tight integration with their OpenGalaxy library management system. DS iTAG can deliver useful data directly into OpenGalaxy which saves time, improves accuracy and speeds up routine tasks. In the longer term, Dudley Council believe DS iTAG is central to its plans to extend services to customers and to open up library services in non-traditional service points, as Kate Millin with Dudley explains, “This new service forms part of Dudley’s modernisation programme, providing our customers with many benefits which include extended opening hours and new and inviting facilities. The introduction of self service kiosks adds a further dimension to the service we provide ensuring that Dudley’s libraries are fit for the 21st century.” Jim Burton, Managing Director with DS, sees RFID gathering real momentum in the marketplace, “Libraries have been looking at RFID for some time and many, like Dudley, believe that the time is now right to make the investment. RFID provides an exciting platform that enables authorities to successfully take library service points out into the community.” DS provide a suite of sophisticated RFID products, under the DS iTAG name, which include solutions for self-service, stock control, stock management and security gates. - ends - Notes to Editors (High res photo available from Catherine.dhanjal@ Axiell Library Group AB Founded in the mid 1980’s, Axiell was the first vendor in the Nordic countries to develop a local library management system.
