The community was created based on an informal concept that has existed among novice wine enthusiasts, advanced collectors and even industry leaders for years: swapping wine.  Corktraders.com enables connoisseurs to expand their trading network and find fellow swappers and wines for trade outside of their immediate circle of friends and acquaintances.

The website’s “Main Cellar” is a comprehensive list of all wines that have been added by members, which makes searching for a specific wine simple for Corktraders subscribers. Once members locate a wine or wines they would like to “swap” for their own, the website allows them to offer a trade and negotiate with counter offers, if necessary, until both parties are satisfied.  Corktraders.com leaves it up to members themselves to arrange the physical exchange of wines from one party to the other; however, the site provides links for information regarding “safe trading” and shipping laws.

Along with bringing members together to trade their wines, Corktraders.com also provides discussion forums, wine reviews, wish list features, and members can upload wines with no intention of trading but rather to showcase their cellar to the community.

Membership dues for Corktraders.com are as follows:  $9.99/month, $25.99/quarter or $99.99/annual.  All memberships currently include a 14 day free trial and unlimited trading and access to the website.  Corktraders.com does not charge any additional commission or transaction fees.
