In a bizarre turn of events, English pensioner, Anthony James Barnett, author of Without Reproach, seems to have captured the imagination of the Canadian reading public.
Anthony, who lives in an inland valley of Spain, wrote what he thought was a mystery, which became heralded as a 'steamy novel' by the press, and then classified as a contemporary romance by the online book store, Amazon. He quite rightly scratches his head over it.
A few weeks ago, Without Reproach made number 50 in Amazon's Canadian best selling list for contemporary romances. Yesterday, 9th October, it re-entered the list at number 25. Today, 10th October, it has slipped back out, but amazingly not because it stopped selling, but because it SOLD OUT.
Amazon Canada has NO FURTHER copies of Without Reproach and will have to re-order.
Is this reminiscent of Stephenie Meyer and Twilight? For some reason, a book sometimes captures the heart of the public. In this case, Canada seems to be having a minor love affair with a far-off author in a foreign land.
Anthony says, "I'm still dazed at the turn of events. But Canada, I love you!"
