Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, Jr. has named Northport resident Karyn Cernera as the new Chair of the College’s Department of Graphic Design. Briarcliffe College has seen heightened interest in the program and now offers course work toward an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design at both its Bethpage (Nassau County) and Patchogue (Suffolk County) campuses.
“Ms. Cernera brings exceptional artistic ability, training, and real world experience to Briarcliffe College,” said Santiago. “Our ‘communication age’ relies on the talent and skills of trained professionals and at Briarcliffe College we prepare students for future careers through complete course work in drawing, painting, design, illustration and digital imaging.”

Ms. Cernera has worked with the Art League of Long Island, served as Art Director/Studio Manager of the Barbara Prey Studios in Oyster Bay, and taught regularly at the Katharine Gibbs School and at Dowling College. She received her MFA from Pratt Institute, BA from Adelphi University, and her AAS from Katharine Gibbs School.
“Briarcliffe College offers an incredible program in graphic design and I’m thrilled to be here as it continues to evolve,” said Cernera.
