Properties in Brazil are unlikely to be an investment opportunity UK investors have considered in the past, so TheMoveChannel.com provides an overview of Bavaria and its culture.

Alagoas
Over the centuries, Alagoas has been influenced by Portuguese, French and Dutch rule. Now this Brazilian sugar-cane state is a popular tourist destination with rainforests, lagoons and wonderful beaches, making it a sweet place to visit.

How To Travel
The recently built Zumbi dos Palmares International Airport - located outside the region’s capital city Maceió - connects Alagoas with many Brazilian cities, as well as some international destinations.
There are also a number of federal highways that connect the area with most of the major Brazilian cities, as well as transportation at the Port of Jaraguá, which is situated in a natural port area that facilitates the docking of ships.
Must See Beaches

Del Gunga
Located in the south-coast, Del Gunga Beach is regularly considered to be one of the top 10 beaches in the whole of Brazil. The beach is long and covered in soft, white sand that calmly rests in front of a warm turquoise sea. Del Gunga is surrounded by a coconut tree plantation and has modern beach amenities, making it a very popular place for family vacations.

Sonho Verde
Sonho Verde Beach is located in the north-coast of the largest city of the state, Maceió. It is a wonderful place to bask in the sun, take a dip in the clear, warm waters, catch some shade under the line of coconut groves or eat regional food in one of its many beach kiosks. Sonho Verde means ‘Green Dream,’ a name that is highly appropriate for this paradise beach, which is very popular among honeymooners.

Pajuçara
The beach of Pajuçara is approximately 2 km from the centre of Maceió. It is a beach blessed with coral reefs that make the crystal-blue waters very calm and ideal for safe swimming. Some of the nearby urban beaches are dirty and polluted, but Pajuçara is very clean and this is reflected by the hordes of people that frequent the beach, especially at the weekend.

Out of the Sun
Alagoas is a small state in north-eastern Brazil, lying between the areas of Pernambuco and Sergipe; touching the state of Bahia along a part of its south-western border.
In the 16th century, Alagoas was invaded by Portuguese and French searching for pau-brazil (a type of wood). In the 17th century, the Dutch conquered the territory of Alagoas in an attempt to manage the commerce of its sugar industry.
The main city in the state is Maceió, which is located on a narrow strip of land between a lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. Maceió is an important cultural centre of Alagoas, it has a federal university, a historical institute and the most outstanding landmark is a lighthouse in the middle of the city.
Shopaholics visiting the area will be content with the Sebrae Warehouse, which is a good place to drop in on as it has sculptures, decorative articles, lace, embroideries, shoes, furniture, sweets, and sugar cane rum.
For the night revellers, the Jaraguá district has a number of funky bars, nightclubs and restaurants. A favourite local cuisine is sururu, an edible mussel found in the Manguaba and Mandau lagoons. It can be served straight in several dishes or as a broth and is considered to be an aphrodisiac.
The climate in the region can be very hot and humid, with the temperatures soaring during the hottest summer months of December and January. Even in winter, the weather remains mild.
In the last twenty years the tourist industry has flocked on Alagoas and in particular Maceió, which has changed from a rather sleepy little port with coconut palm plantations along its beaches to a landscape of high rise hotels.
Dam Johnson, Managing Director, comments:
“The northern coast, particularly around the towns Maragogi and Japaratinga is beginning to see some of this activity in the form of resorts attracting European property contractors and investors, all of whom seem to have developed a bit of a sweet-tooth for the region.”
