The 29th Annual Oktoberfest will be held on Sunday, October 12th, 2008 from 12 - 6:00 throughout five blocks in the heart of Harvard Square. This nearly 200 year old tradition honoring the established 2-week Bavarian beer festival that originated in Munich, Germany.
Oktoberfest in Cambridge is easily considered one of the most popular celebrations in New England and includes some of the hottest bands in boston playing on six stages of live entertainment – including a main stage in the Super Crosswalk, Stage at Holyoke Center on Forbes Plaza, Club Passim Stage, A Busker Stage, and two Honk Band Stages.
Playing on the Main Stage in the Super Crosswalk between 2pm and 2:40pm on Sunday afternoon is Iyeoka and the Rock by Funk Tribe, a Boston based band with a growing fan base who most recently shared a bill with Zap Mama and main staged at the 2008 Boston Arts Festival. Iyeoka and the RBF Tribe features your classic "rock" instruments - a guitar, a bass, a set of drums and two microphones reserved for the funk.
Performance poet and lead vocalist Iyeoka Ivie Okoawo and Brian Capobianchi, lead vocalist and MC of NH based Hip-Hop group the Press Project, compliments the Tribes use of varying melodies, catchy hooks and thoughtful lyrics that models dynamic attention to words from the best in slam poetry making the music a bonus.
Another performance highlight expected to gather a crowd is Boston’s own, Mieka Pauley who recently toured with Citizen Cope is scheduled to play on the Club Passim Stage at 5pm. Other special events at Oktoberfest include the Honk Festival and the Honk Parade to Oktoberfest an ambulatory spectacle to reclaim the street for Horns, Bikes and Feet.
