South Florida non-profit organization,
Caribbean Music Alliance, Inc. has organized a fifteen month U.S. benefit concert tour, “One-Love Unity Fest” to raise funds to fight against poverty in Jamaica.
The economical and sociological conditions in the county of Jamaica are alarmingly poor. As a result, crime is at an all time high in the country and many of the citizens, especially those living in the ghettos and inner-cities are forced to live in unthinkable conditions. Children are going to bed hungry and single mothers are forced into prostitution to provide a meal for their hungry children. Many of the county teens are turned out on the streets by their family to fin for themselves, ultimately turning to gangs and a life of crime as a means of survival. The headline of an April 2008 Amnesty International article read:
"Gangs & Police Cripple Jamaica’s Inner-Cities;
In third world countries such as Jamaica, there are no governmental programs to provide assistance to the poor and needy, (as we are so privileged & accustomed to having in the United States and other first world countries). The disadvantage citizens of these countries rely heavily on relatives living outside of their country to send money, food, & clothing that they are not able to obtain for themselves, (the basic human needs).
“While no one company or organization can single handedly wipe out the existence of poverty in Jamaica, we (The CMA), are making a conscious effort to do our part to lead a much needed fight against it by bringing awareness of the issues and working together with the Caribbean Artists from the Roots & Culture & Gospel genre and other organizations to raise funds to aid the people of Jamaica”, stated Rosemarie Mitchell, President and Founder of the Caribbean Music Alliance, Inc.
The kick-off event for the fifteen month “One-Love Unity Fest” benefit concert tour is scheduled to be held on December 6, 2008 at the Omni Auditorium located at:
1000 Coconut Creek Blvd, Coconut Creek, Florida 33066
doors open at 6:00 P.M.
