Live demonstration of guided wave pipeline inspection by SGS at the WCNDT

Oct. 9, 2008 - PRLog -- The World Conference and Exhibition on Non-Destructive Testing (WCNDT) is one of the most important events in the world for the industry. The 17th WCNDT will be held in Shanghai, China from the 26-28 October 2008.

At the SGS Stand, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) experts will demonstrate live how advanced NDT technologies like Tank floor scanning and guided wave inspection work. This year's topic is a total integrity service package for both Storage Tanks and Process piping.

Pipelines: Guided Wave Inspection
The guided wave technology, which will be demonstrated live by Inspectors at the SGS Stand at the WCNDT in Shanghai, screens pipe work for metal loss features such as corrosion and erosion. It is suitable for application to pipelines and process piping including road crossings, jetty lines and corrosion under insulation inspection generally, and can be used without any scaffolding, digging or insulation removal.

Guided Wave uses a low frequency guided ultrasound travelling along the pipe, providing 100% coverage of the pipe wall. SGS NDT Training and Examination Center
SGS carries out training and examinations for NDT experts in its newly opened Training and Examination Center in Shanghai.

As an Authorized Qualifying Body of BINDT, SGS now offers PCN training and examinations according to the EN473 Scheme. The courses and examinations include conventional NDT methods like magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual inspections or radiographic and ultrasonic testing.
