18 year old Christopher Alexander McCowan from Fresno, California walked into his local Elections office, and asked to sign up as a write-in candidate for the California State Assembly District #31. Christopher has gotten the nomination signatures needed to be a nominated to run for the office, in the first week. I told Chris McCowan that his chances were one in a million, and then I asked him one question. "Why, don't you quit?"
"My grandfather never quit working for his family, he stopped going to school in the fourth grade so he could work on the family farm, to put his older brothers and sisters threw school. My grandmother never stopped working to raise her family, my Aunt Debbie never stopped going to school and she never gave up on her dream of becoming a teacher, and helping children. I will not ever even if I lose give up on my dreams, I took an oath on the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the state of California, to people, to myself, and to God. I will not give up, it is to important to me, the people and my country are to important to me. I may not have experience, I may not be the smartest person in the world. But I have the will, and the hope to do what I am doing. I want to help the people. I am not some old man who wants to get into politics and do the same nothing that has been done in Sacramento, and in Washington, because that nothing their doing is doing something to my family, to my friends families, to my neighbors to my community. I want to change this country for the better, I may not write the best speeches like Barack Obama, I may not be Hillary Clinton, or a Kennedy, but I am someone who is tried of watching our country fall apart. I am young, I know that I am going to have a future, it may not be in Politics maybe it will, but what ever I do it will be to help the people. Everyone even though I don't know everyone has a place in my heart. I am not rich, I have never taken anything from anyone nor have I ever asked anyone of anything, because I don't want to. I just do ask one thing let me help you. I have always had a big imagination you can ask anyone call my mother 559-803-3292 her name is Barbara ask her, she will tell you that I am always coming up with something to help someone, I work and I work to get my dreams off the ground just to be put down by someone but I put on a smile and say "Thank You" because I know that that person is underestimating me, and they will see. In Middle school my Vice-Principal told me that I would never goto Duncan Polytechnic a magnet school because "I am too dumb, and I won't even graduate." I showed her I graduated middle school and went to Duncan it was just for a year but still I went. In high school I was told that I would not pass the High School Exit Exam it took me two tries on the English, and six times with the Math, but I passed and went on to graduate. I love to prove to people that I can do what they think I can't, it might take me a little time, but I will do it and I will do it better then anyone who has done it or has thought of doing it."
I don't know how to describe Christopher other than "interesting"
