The abstract and the realist beautifully collaborate to celebrate the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. With color and texture, using watercolors, oils, and collage, artists Karen Knutson of Eden Prairie and Carol McIntyre a former long-time resident of Minneapolis, open their exhibition Capturing Nature’s Beauty: Two Artists Inspired by the Arboretum, on Sunday, November 2, 2008. The Opening Reception is from 2-4pm in the Reedy Gallery of the Arboretum. Meet the artists and attend the gallery talk at 2:30pm.
Together they illustrate how differently two creative hearts and minds “see” the same world. McIntyre presents a realistic perspective while Knutson offers a more abstracted interpretation of the Arboretum’s flora and landscapes. Along with over 45 artworks, two interpretive displays outline the steps each artist followed to portray the same subject. For example, the same scene along the Arboretum’s three-mile drive is painted by both artists, and you will be able to see and read their steps in creating their respective paintings, as well as compare the results. This is a rare opportunity to observe the artistic process and to learn how two artists internally process and then execute their creative decisions. 2008 is the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s 100th anniversary, hence this exhibition is timely and one not to miss.
