Ojai, CA — OrcaTec LLC, a leading provider of information retrieval software and consulting, today announced the release of a beta test version of Truevert, the first truly semantic search engine. The first release of the Truevert semantic search engine focuses on "green" issues related to environmental and sustainability issues. It can be seen at www.truevert.com.
Truevert uses YAHOO's BOSS interface to retrieve relevant documents from the Web. As a result, it is not limited to a small subset of hand-picked sites. Truevert uses OrcaTec's patent pending semantic search to identify and rank the best and most relevant documents. In addition, Truevert displays a list of the themes for the retrieved documents. Users can organize the returned pages by theme or can conduct new searches for any theme. Truevert also allows users to identify the interesting phrases in document so that they can quickly know what it is about and what other topics they might find interesting.
Ordinary search engines do not understand the meanings of the words that they index. Semantic search engines typically rely on a thesaurus, ontology, or taxonomy to mechanically tell them how terms are related to one another. Truevert, in contrast, learns the meanings of words in the same way that people do—from the context in which the words are used. This gives Truevert the power to identify meaningful search results.
"Truevert understands that when you search in a green context for a word like "clothing," you want information about eco-friendly shirts and dresses, not the location of the nearest Gap store. Truevert delivers this information, " said Herbert L. Roitblat, Ph.D., Principal of OrcaTec. Truevert provides meaningful, precise, and relevant content, focused on any selected topic vertical.
Truevert demonstrates the semantic power of the patent-pending technology in OrcaTec's Information Discovery Toolkit, which also provides near duplicate clustering, email threading, and language identification.
The Truevert technology works in any language and any interest area. "Truevert provides the first scalable automatic approach to semantic search," said Brian Golbère, Principal of OrcaTec. "Vertical topic areas can be as broad as consumer products or as narrow as a single person's interest." "Rather than taking 20 years to build an ontology," he added, "Truevert can automatically learn a new vertical in well under an hour."
About Truevert
Truevert is a true vertical semantic search engine, based on OrcaTec's Information Discovery Toolkit and Yahoo's BOSS. The first implementation of the Truevert search engine is for the green search. Try it at www.truevert.com. Some searches to try include "clothing," "CFL," and "toilets." The patent pending Truevert technology works in any language. It is easily extended to other verticals with minimal effort (typically less than an hour). Verticals can be as broad as you like (consumer products) or as narrow as a single person's interest. Truevert is a project of OrcaTec LLC.
