The web addresses used have been reserved especially for the Diplomatic Corps for some years. It is only this month that the final decision was made to go ahead with the plan.
The accounts may be accessed online or via mobile phone and incorporate a fileshare & chat facility. Microsoft LiveMail manages the security anti virus.
"I needed to work fast" said Pierre Traves of ´DIPLOMATIC MANAGEMENT LTD´, the company contracted to setup the email service. His company had previously worked for the Diplomatic Corps for 6 years, designing logos and stationary for official diplomatic events.
"The site is basic at the moment, but as soon as the added forum goes online, it will become a main hub for diplomats all over the world" he told us.
Diplomats will need to prove their eligibility for the special email accounts by contacting the administrator from an email listed either on an Official Diplomatic List or on a Ministry of Foreign Affairs Website.
