Magazine Readers Name the Best of Singapore

The results are in. The people have spoken. The winners of I-S Magazine’s 13th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards have been published, and the most popular places, trends and personalities in Singapore have been revealed -- from the Best New Restaurant, to the Coolest New Boutique Hotel, to the Weirdo of the Year.

A record number of readers participated in this year’s polling, which was conducted in July and August 2008 among readers of I-S Magazine. Published every Friday, I-S Magazine is the widest read and most authoritative guide to what’s happening in Singapore. Each issue features reviews of the latest restaurants, comprehensive listings of events, plus in-depth coverage of travel, fitness, shopping, food and more.

“Our readers are very plugged-in. They are Singapore’s trend-setters and opinion leaders, so it’s always fascinating to see what their favorites are,” said Greg Duncan, editor-in-chief of I-S Magazine.  “Singapore’s lifestyle scene is very fast-paced. Things come and go – and fall in and out of favor – very quickly. The Readers’ Choice Awards are a great way to take the pulse and make new discoveries.”

Winners include upscale Italian eatery Forlino as the Best New Restaurant, the high-elevation drinking spot Helipad as Best New Bar (complete with space for your Sikorsky), luxury-laden Naumi as Best Boutique Hotel, Fitness First as the Best Gym and nightlife hotspot Zouk as Best Club.

This year’s Awards include a special focus on the “X-Factor,” that certain indefinable, elusive quality that makes things unique and memorable.  Speaking of elusive, the winner for X-Factor Personality of the Year is none other than Mas Selamat, the terrorist leader who managed to escape from one of Singapore’s top security prisons by crawling out of an open bathroom window and has so far not been found despite the largest manhunt in Singapore history.
