“After seeing the level of work these kids were performing during what was a very hot summer day, I could not leave my tour of the program without playing a role in the future of the organization. I have visited a lot of youth programs during my career, however there is truly something special going on over at Project RISE. Lives are being transformed in a way that will benefit these kids dramatically for years to come,” said Timmons
Timmons is not the first celebrity to join Project RISE. Current Board Members include New Kids on the Block Danny Wood and Major League Baseball Legend Luis Tiant. The Board also includes several local business and community leaders.
“I am extremely honored to have Jeff join our growing list of prominent board members. We were fortunate to have Jeff visit our program this past summer when he was in Boston to perform. Jeff was able to experience for himself the positive impact our program has on area youth” said Rob Dixon, Executive Director of Project RISE.
This past summer over 300 children from the greater-Boston area participated in the six-week, full-day program that includes instruction by local public and private high school teachers in Math, English, Science, History, SAT Prep, and Study and Organizational Skills. The academic portion of the program is four days leaving Friday’s for field-trips which will include trips to the Museum of Science, the New England Aquarium, and several museums to include the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of African-American and Multicultural History.
Project RISE hopes to increase their funding to enable the organization next summer to double the number of kids they service to over 600. For more information please visit www.projectrise.com.
